Thirty Seconds To Mars are up for 3 MTV Video Music Awards this year for their short film 'Hurricane'! 'Hurricane' is nominated in the VMA’s Professional Categories for Best Editing, Best Cinematography, and Best Direction (Non-voted awards). The VMAs air live on Sunday, August 28th at 9/8c. The Wind-Up Bird Chronicle is a novel by Haruki Murakami. The first published translation was by Alfred Birnbaum. The American translation and its British adaptation, dubbed the "only official translations" (English) are by Jay Rubin and were first published in 1997. For this novel, Murakami received the Yomiuri Literary Award, which was awarded to him by one of his harshest former critics, Oe Kenzaburo. The novel is about a low-key unemployed man, Toru Okada, whose cat runs away. A chain of events follow that prove that his seemingly mundane boring life is much more complicated than it appears.

The King of Comedy is a 1983 American dark comedy film starring Robert De Niro and Jerry Lewis, and directed by Martin Scorsese. The subject of the movie is celebrity stalking. It was released on February 18, 1983 in the United States by 20th Century Fox. Rupert Pupkin (De Niro), a stage-door autograph hound, is an aspiring stand-up comic with obsessive ambition far in excess of his still-budding talent. After an accidental meeting with Jerry Langford (Lewis), a famous comedian and talk show host, Rupert believes his "big break" has finally come. He attempts to get a place on the show, but is continually rebuffed by Langford's staff and, finally, by Langford himself. |

The Fool is the full-length debut by Los Angeles-based quartet Warpaint, released on October 25, 2010.It will be their first release since signing to UK-based record label, Rough Trade. It was produced by Tom Biller, and features mixing duties by Andrew Weatherall and Adam Samuels. It was streamed live exclusively through The Hype Machine on October 19, 2010. The Skinny described it as "dark" and "guilt drenched". Red Hot Chili Peppers bassist Flea described the album as 'a sublime and beautiful record', and later vocalist Anthony Kiedis in interview named the Warpaint the most promising on LA scene.

Embarking from a scene in Mark Twain's The Adventures of Huckleberry Finn, Jon Clinch has written a debut novel of harrowing intensity. When Jim and Huck find a dead man in a house floating down the Mississippi, the room with the body is filled with mysterious oddities: a wooden leg, two black masks, crude scrawlings over the walls, etc. Huck does not know that the corpse, shot in the back, is his father. Clinch meticulously fills in the backstory of Finn (or "Pap Finn," as Twain usually referred to him). He uses the details of the floating-house scene, and much of Twain's plotting, characters, and themes, to create a story at once intricately entwined with Huckleberry Finn and separate from that novel in tone and focus. |

The Virgin Suicides is a 1999 American drama film written and directed by Sofia Coppola, produced by her father Francis Ford Coppola, starring James Woods, Kathleen Turner, Kirsten Dunst and Josh Hartnett. Based on the novel of the same name by Jeffrey Eugenides, the film tells of the suicides of five sisters in an upper middle class suburb of Detroit during the 1970s. The girls' suicides fascinate their community as their neighbors struggle to find an explanation for the acts. |

Gloss Drop is the second studio album by American experimental rock band Battles. The band have announced a spring tour in support of the record. It is the band's first release since the departure of Tyondai Braxton. Most of the album is instrumental, but vocals are provided by various guests performers, including electronic musician Gary Numan and Blonde Redhead's Kazu Makino. Gloss Drop received very positive reviews from most music critics upon its release.

Thirty Seconds To Mars will release a digital EP with 4 tracks from their recent MTV Unplugged performance prior to the VMA’s on August 23rd. The set will include “Hurricane,” “Kings & Queens,” “Night Of The Hunter” and their inspiring rendition of the U2 classic, “Where The Streets Have No Name.”

Incognito: The Secret Lives of the Brain is a 2011 bestselling non-fiction book by American neuroscientist David Eagleman, who directs the Laboratory for Perception and Action at Baylor College of Medicine. In Incognito, Eagleman contends that most of the operations of the brain are inaccessible to awareness, such that the conscious mind "is like a stowaway on a transatlantic steam ship, taking credit for the journey without acknowledging the massive engineering underfoot." The film is based on the screenplay by Joseph Stefano, who adapted it from the 1959 novel of the same name by Robert Bloch. The novel was loosely inspired by the crimes of Wisconsin murderer and grave robber Ed Gein, who lived just 40 miles from Bloch. |

Dead Cities, Red Seas & Lost Ghosts is the second studio album by the French electronic–dream pop group M83. The album was first released in Europe on April 14, 2003, then in North America on July 27, 2004 to positive reviews. The cover art is by Justine Kurland and is called Snow Angels. The North American pressing of the album comes with a bonus disc, containing five additional tracks, including the title track of the album and a live version of "Gone," as well as the enhanced videos of the singles "Run into Flowers" and "America."
