Just after announcing the full list of nominees, MTV has unveiled
some of the performers set to take the stage at the 2010 MTV Video Music
Awards. Katy Perry, Jay-Z, Pink, and a pregnant Alicia Keys are among
the first announced for the annual pop culture event. Newlywed Alicia Keys will take the stage at the awards show, set to
take place Sunday, September 12th at 9pm. Jay-Z will also perform that
night. The two performed their huge duet “Empire State of Mind” at last
year’s show. Katy Perry will also take the stage to perform one
of her hits off her upcoming “Teenage Dream” album. She helped introduce
the show last year, performing “We Will Rock You” with Joe Perry. Her
husband-to-be Russell Brand played host for the second time last year. Also returning from last year is Pink, who left viewers stunned with
her high-flying, stunt-filled performance of “Sober.” Usher will also
take the stage to perform for the first time since 2004, when he took
the stage for “Confessions” and “Yeah.” 30 Seconds to Mars round out the
first batch of performers announced, with plenty more still to be
announced. Among those expected to perform are Lady Gaga, who
earned a record-breaking 13 nominations this year. It’s no surprise that
her extensive touring schedule for her sold-out “Monster Ball” tour has
a few days off around the VMA’s.
