Snow Crash is Neal Stephenson's third novel, published in 1992. The book presents the Sumerian language as the firmware programming language for the brainstem, which is supposedly functioning as the BIOS for the human brain. According to characters in the book, the goddess Asherah is the personification of a linguistic virus, similar to a computer virus. The god Enki created a counter-program which he called a nam-shub that caused all of humanity to speak different languages as a protection against Asherah (a re-interpretation of the ancient Near Eastern story of the Tower of Babel). Snow Crash was nominated for both the British Science Fiction Award in 1993, and the Arthur C. Clarke Award in 1994. |

Odd Blood is the self-produced second studio album by American experimental rock band Yeasayer. Recorded in the state of New York during 2009, it was released on February 8, 2010 in Europe and a day later in North America, with Secretly Canadian as the primary label. "Ambling Alp", "O.N.E", "Madder Red", and "I Remember" were released as singles. Odd Blood peaked at number 63 on the U.S. Billboard 200 and at number 64 on the UK Albums Chart. It reached number five on the U.S. Billboard Independent Albums chart. Yeasayer followed the record's release with an extended tour throughout 2010.

Thirty Seconds To Mars acclaimed album ‘This Is War’ has been certified Gold by the RIAA, giving the band even more reason to celebrate during their Mars 300 shows next month in NYC which will commemorate their Guinness Book Of World Record breaking 300th show played during a single album cycle.
It is certified Platinum in three countries including the UK, Germany and Poland and has achieved Gold status in seven countries including Ireland, Austria, Belgium, Portugal, Australia, New Zealand and South Africa and now in the U.S.

You Love You is the second studio album of American glam rock band Semi Precious Weapons. It was released on June 29, 2010 by Interscope Records. Semi Precious Weapons is a rock band from New York City consisting of Justin Tranter on vocals, Stevy Pyne on guitar, Cole Whittle on bass and Dan Crean on drums. Pyne replaced former guitarist, Aaron Lee Tasjan, in November 2008. The band play their own "Filthy Glamour" brand of rock music and espouse a "Dirty Showbiz" philosophy.

The Against Malaria Foundation is a United Kingdom-based charity that provides mosquito nets to populations at high risk of malaria, primarily in Africa. Since its founding in 2004, the foundation has raised $7 million and distributed 1.6 million long-lasting insecticidal nets (LLINs). The average cost of nets to-date has been $4.36. LLINs are distributed through partnerships with the International Red Cross, the Malaria Consortium and others, with partners responsible for all costs of distribution. |

Restrepo is a 2010 documentary film about the Afghanistan war, directed by American journalist Sebastian Junger and British/American photojournalist Tim Hetherington. The film explores the year that Junger and Hetherington spent in Afghanistan on assignment for Vanity Fair, embedded with the Second Platoon, B Company, 2nd Battalion, 503rd Infantry Regiment (airborne), 173rd Airborne Brigade Combat Team of the U.S. Army in the Korengal Valley. The 2nd Platoon is depicted defending an Observation Post (OP) named OP Restrepo, for PFC Juan Sebastián Restrepo, a Colombian-born naturalized U.S. citizen platoon medic who was killed earlier in the campaign. |
